Supporting WSU Jefferson County Master Gardeners to provide research-based horticultural information

The Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation is a nonprofit organization in a collaborative agreement with WSU Jefferson County Extension. The Foundation provides support services and financial assistance to further WSU Extension’s mission in educating the community with sustainable, research-based horticultural information. The Foundation also provides financial grants to community organizations engaged in agriculture and sustainability efforts in Jefferson County.

Farmer’s Market Pruning Workshops

July 19, Port Townsend Farmer’s Market 9 a.m.–2 p.m., and July 20, Chimacum Farmer’s Market, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Come and learn about pruning fruit trees, bushes, and ornamentals at the MG booth at the Port Townsend Farmer’s Market on July 19 from 9 a.m.–2: p.m.  Certified Master Gardener pruners Doug Van Allen and Harry Hayward will give live demonstrations to visitors throughout the day using a variety of pruning tools plus explaining the types of cuts to use on a fruit tree versus an ornamental bush.

Upcoming Presentation

Thursday, September 11, from 3–4 p.m.

Longtime Master Gardener Sarah Fairbank will present on “Creating an Alpine Rock Garden: Challenges and Rewards” at the Master Gardener Foundation meeting in September. Sarah will cover how to prepare the garden bed, including choosing the right exposure and soil mixture, what kind of gravel and rock to incorporate, and watering and maintaining the garden. The public is welcome to attend.
