Supporting WSU Jefferson County Master Gardeners to provide research-based horticultural information

The Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation is a nonprofit organization in a collaborative agreement with WSU Jefferson County Extension. The Foundation provides support services and financial assistance to further WSU Extension’s mission in educating the community with sustainable, research-based horticultural information. The Foundation also provides financial grants to community organizations engaged in agriculture and sustainability efforts in Jefferson County.

May 9: Save the Date for the Plant Sale

Jefferson County Master Gardeners are hard at work planning and planting in the greenhouse, dividing house and yard plants, and caring for perennials for the May 9 sale.

This year, we’re hosting the sale at a new location at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Horticultural Building.

April 9 Presentation

“Aquaponics: History, Approaches and Current Relevance, 3–4 p.m., Thursday, April 9

Aquaponics — a farming system that combines fish raising and hydroponics — has been used in a variety of ways dating back to ancient civilizations. Lee Bebout, a Master Gardener with a doctorate in microbial ecology and a 20-plus-year background at NASA studying microbes, will share the basic “how to” components of aquaponics system, benefits and cost considerations as well as the broad diversity in approaches.

“Lemurs and Wolves and Bats, Oh My! 3–4 p.m., Thursday, May 7

Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of pollinators.  Judy Conlow, a Master Gardener and retired Naval attorney, will share secrets she’s learned about pollinators, including their identities. Spoiler alert: pollinators aren’t just bees and butterflies. Enjoy an around-the world pollinator tour with Judy at the helm.
